Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!
This weekend, I heard the words I didn’t realize I’ve been longing for from my 8-year-old son: “Dad, take my picture!” He had just climbed to the top of a huge (to him) rock face at our campsite and wanted to capture the moment of triumph.
It got me thinking about how much we all crave those moments of accomplishment and recognition, even from our Heavenly Father. Don’t you think God cherishes when we say, “Look what I’ve done with the gifts you’ve given me!”? He delights in seeing us use our talents and abilities for His glory.
I realized that I haven’t been nurturing those kinds of moments enough with my kids lately. With my five pillars – God, family, abundant life, adventure, and technology – it’s easy for adventure to get pushed to the backburner. But this weekend reminded me how important it is.
Overcoming challenges, whether it’s scaling a cliff or trying something new, builds confidence and creates memories worth commemorating. It’s not about staging perfect photos, but celebrating real growth and achievement.
As parents, we need to be intentional about providing opportunities for our kids to stretch themselves and experience that sense of pride in a job well done. It’s the kind of positive reinforcement that inspires them to keep reaching higher.
The same is true in our relationship with God. When we step out in faith, take risks for the Kingdom, and multiply the “talents” He’s entrusted to us, it brings our Father joy! We’re living out the abundant life He desires for us.
So let’s seek out those mountaintop moments, both literally and figuratively. Chase after challenges that push you to grow. And don’t forget to pause and acknowledge the victories along the way.
Look up and say, “God, take a picture of this!” He’s smiling down on you with pride.
You be blessed!
