In this video, I share a report on our weekly men’s Bible study in Hermantown, Minnesota, where we discussed John 17.

I admit that I felt humbled while preparing for the study, as I realized the depth and significance of this chapter, which records a prayer between Jesus and the Father. I point out that very little is recorded about the content of Jesus’ frequent prayers to the Father, making this passage particularly insightful.

During the study, we focused on the first part of John 17, where Christ prays for himself. I read this portion aloud and share that several of us felt like we were reading it with fresh eyes, discovering new insights that we needed at this point in our lives to become better followers of Christ.

We also discussed the concept of eternal life versus everlasting life and the question of when a person is saved. One of the participants shared an analogy comparing God’s perspective to seeing the entire parade while we are like the blimp in the middle, emphasizing that God knows who will choose to accept the gift of eternal life through faith in Christ.

I highlight the challenge for believers to spread God’s word, recognizing that we don’t know who will choose to believe, but God sees the whole timeline of a person’s life. I emphasize God’s desire for everyone to come to faith and trust in Jesus for salvation.

Looking forward to next week, I mention that we will delve into the second part of John 17, where Christ prays for his disciples. I invite local listeners to join us at Valentini’s in Hermantown on Tuesday mornings at 6:30 AM.
