Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!

TLDR: Discover the profound difference between trying to guard your own heart and mind versus letting God do it for you. Learn how a simple prayer based on Philippians 4:4-7 can instantly eliminate temptation, worry, and impure thoughts when you invite God’s peace to surpass your own understanding and guard what matters most.

What?

I have good news for you today. I have good news for me today. I love Tony Robbins – I love attending his events and getting all hyped up. The excitement is overwhelming, and it’s awesome and powerful. When we get into that mindset, we’re “at cause” and transforming ourselves.

One of the things that really stuck out to me with Tony Robbins last fall, and I’ve heard it a couple times, is to “guard your mind.” Zig Ziglar also says the same thing: “guard your mind.”

I woke up this morning and I just had thoughts, dreams, fantasies that aren’t in alignment with my purity, God’s plan for my life. And I had a temptation to act out on that. And I went straight to God. I wish I could say I always do that. And my heart and mind were free. At peace. Pure.

It was simple. I’ve done it before, I’ve done it many times, and I just gotta remember: it’s not me that needs to guard my heart and mind. Tony says that, and Tony’s a Christian – he believes in God, he believes in a higher power. But when he says “guard your heart and mind,” he’s serving everybody.

We are Kingdom Family Leaders. We are Christians, and we can go to scripture. And it’s right here – it’s very clear, very simple. It’s so simple it blows me away.

Why?

This experience revealed something crucial about the difference between worldly self-help and Kingdom resources. While Tony Robbins and other motivational speakers teach us to guard our own minds through willpower and discipline, as Christians we have access to something infinitely more powerful.

The challenge with trying to guard our own hearts and minds is that we’re fighting temptation, worry, and impure thoughts with the same mind that’s being attacked. It’s like trying to lift yourself up by your own bootstraps – it requires constant vigilance and energy, and we often fail when we’re tired, stressed, or caught off guard.

But as Kingdom Family Leaders, we don’t have to rely on our own strength. We have direct access to the Creator of the universe who offers to guard our hearts and minds for us. This isn’t about religious platitudes – this is about practical, immediate spiritual warfare that works every single time.

Lesson

Here’s the breakthrough from Philippians 4:4-7: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say rejoice. Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.”

Who better to guard my heart and mind than God in Jesus Christ? All I have to do is invite Him. All I have to do is let my requests be known. Be anxious for nothing – prayer and supplication. It was a simple prayer, and when I use it, it works every time.

When I have that temptation crop up, when my eyes are wandering, when I am thinking the wrong things, I just say “God” and it’s gone. That’s it. I can even go further: “God guard my heart and mind. God, keep me pure. God set me on the path in Jesus’ name.” That’s it. And the thought’s gone. The temptation’s gone. The worries are gone.

Your heart and mind are secure. They are safe. Now it’s time to take action in that safety, in that protection, in that guarded place of a secure heart and mind. And when you feel and hear that temptation, turn it back on again.

Apply

Take this to the bank: Who better to guard your heart and mind than the Creator of our world, the Savior of our souls, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ?

Practice this simple prayer today. When temptation, worry, or impure thoughts arise, don’t try to fight them with willpower. Instead, immediately pray: “God, guard my heart and mind” or simply “God” and invite His peace that surpasses understanding to take over.

Write down in the Doobly Doo below: What area of your heart and mind do you most need God’s protection over? Share how you’re going to implement this simple but powerful prayer practice, or testify to how God has already guarded your heart and mind in specific situations.

Remember, this isn’t about perfection – it’s about having the right guard on duty. When temptation returns, simply turn the protection back on again through prayer.

You be blessed!
