Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!
TLDR: Discover why the guy I work with can talk to me because I’m different – I don’t live in his town, won’t see him at church or the grocery store, and he can take off the mask completely without guilt or shame about what if it doesn’t work.
What?
Hey. This is different. I want you to know. I was talking with one of the people I work with recently, and he said that he can talk to me because it’s different. I don’t live in his town. I don’t live where he lives. I’m a stranger to him.
I’m able to ask him questions and think through the stuff that is challenging him in his relationships, in his wealth, and in his health. And there’s like no guilt and shame. There’s just truth coming out. He’s able to bring out that truth because I live way over here in northern Minnesota and he lives where he lives every day – with his wife every day, with his work every day, in his community, with the same people all the time.
And he can’t talk to them about it. Because what if it doesn’t work? What if he doesn’t get through it all? What if he doesn’t solve it? What if God doesn’t answer his prayers?
By working with me, he can break through and build up that confidence, that self awareness, that he can kill that inner voice that’s killing him. He can be honest. He can take off the mask completely and find a new way and find a new life just through the process of coaching.
It’s really Psalm 139: “Search me, O God, and know my anxious thoughts. Try me. And see if there’s any hurtful way in me…” set me straight. Get me organized.
He can’t do that where he’s at. And maybe you can’t do that where you’re at. But I’m here, secretly hidden out in northern Minnesota.
I won’t talk to any of your friends, your family, your neighbors. I won’t look at you funny in the grocery store. I won’t cross your path at church or at Celebrate Recovery or at the gym or at the kids games.
It’s a safe place to work on the new version of you, to get that secret out from inside and solve everything, to make yourself right with yourself and connect with the Lord.
Why?
I share this because Kingdom Family Leaders can’t talk to people where they live. You can’t take off the mask with your wife, your work, your community, the same people all the time. Because what if it doesn’t work? What if you don’t solve it? What if God doesn’t answer your prayers? You’ll still see them at church, at the grocery store, at Celebrate Recovery, at the gym, at the kids games.

He can be honest, take off the mask completely, work on the new version of himself without worrying who will see him fail. Soon, he’ll face them all raw and maskless.
Lesson
Sometimes you can’t be honest about your struggles with people you see every day because what if it doesn’t work? What if you don’t get through it all? What if you don’t solve it? What if God doesn’t answer your prayers? You still have to see them every day – at church, at the store, at the gym, at the kids games.
The people I work with can talk to me because it’s different. I don’t live in their town. I’m a stranger to them. I’m able to ask questions and think through the stuff challenging them in relationships, wealth, and health. No guilt and shame. Just truth coming out.
They can bring out that truth because I live in remote northern Minnesota and they live at home with their wife, work, community, same people all the time. They can’t talk to them about it. But they can talk to me.
By working with someone who doesn’t live where you live, you can break through and build up that confidence, that self awareness. You can kill that inner voice that’s killing you. You can be honest. You can take off the mask completely and find a new way and find a new life, the real you.

Apply
This week, identify one thing you can’t talk about with people where you live because “what if it doesn’t work?” Find someone outside your town, outside your daily circles, who won’t see you at church or the grocery store or the gym or kids games. Someone you can take the mask off with completely without guilt or shame about what if God doesn’t answer your prayers. Maybe that’s me.
