Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!

TLDR: Through a guided meditation using the metaphor of flashlights, I help you visualize how your attention scatters throughout the day while God’s light remains steadily focused on you, teaching the power of redirecting your focus upward and living in constant connection with the Lord.

What?
I led you through a closed-eye meditation exercise that I often use in one-on-one coaching and releasing sessions. In this visualization, you imagine yourself holding a flashlight throughout your day, shining it left and right – on getting kids to school, work transactions, Bible reading, caring for your spouse, volunteering. Then I asked you to step outside yourself and observe how that light flickers everywhere – to the bank, the commute, the grocery store – constantly shifting. But there’s another light, steady and unmoving, always shining down on you. When you finally point your flashlight up, you discover God’s unwavering attention has been on you all along.

Why?
I shared this meditation because so many of us live our days with scattered attention, jumping from task to task, rarely aware of God’s constant presence. We’re so busy shining our light on immediate concerns that we forget to look up and receive the warmth and steadiness of His love. This disconnect between our frantic attention and God’s steady focus creates spiritual exhaustion. We need to remember that while we’re worried about where we’re pointing our light, God’s concerned about us – not our productivity, but our hearts.

Lesson
Your attention is like a flashlight in the darkness – it can only illuminate one thing at a time, and you control where it points. Most days, we wave it around frantically, trying to light up everything at once. But God’s attention on you never wavers. He doesn’t multitask with His children. His light stays steady on you whether you’re praying or shopping, working or resting. The practice of prayer without ceasing isn’t about constantly talking to God – it’s about maintaining awareness of His constant presence. When you invite others to “look up” with you – your kids, your spouse, your colleagues – you’re not just sharing faith, you’re modeling what it means to live connected. Every mundane task becomes sacred when done in awareness of His presence.

Apply
Right now, wherever you are, close your eyes for just 30 seconds. Picture that steady light shining down on you at this very moment. Take three deep breaths and simply receive that attention. Then write down one specific activity you’ll do today – maybe it’s your commute, maybe it’s making dinner – and commit to doing it while consciously pointing your light upward, staying aware of God’s presence. Notice how that mundane task transforms when you do it “as unto the Lord.”

You be blessed!
