Top o’ the Mornin’ to Ya!
Today, I’m reflecting on the quality of our questions and how they impact our communication, both with AI and with the people in our lives. This insight was sparked by a podcast on AI leadership and my recent re-reading of “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”
The podcast from the Shane Sams Show (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/132-the-ai-driven-leader-w-geoff-woods/id1519253634?i=1000669133447) introduced Geoff Woods’ new book AI Driven Leadership. The conversation highlighted the importance of giving clear instructions to AI and even having it ask us clarifying questions. This got me thinking about how we can apply the same principle to our human interactions. Why don’t we give people the same clear instructions and context we’re learning to give AI?
Stephen Covey’s “seek first to understand” principle from Seven Habits ties into this perfectly. It’s about asking better questions, listening deeply, and communicating clearly. I’ve realized that so much of the advice I give as a coach, father, husband, and mentor comes from this book.
The quality of our questions determines the quality of our communication and, ultimately, our results. Whether we’re interacting with AI, our children, our spouse, or colleagues, we need to:
- Ask deeper, more thoughtful questions
- Provide clear context and instructions
- Listen actively to the responses
- Use the information to guide us to better outcomes
By improving our prompts – the questions and instructions we give – we can enhance our interactions with both AI and the people in our lives. It’s about being more intentional and thoughtful in our communication.
So, challenge yourself to give better prompts to your life, your family, and even your AI. The results might surprise you!
You be blessed!
